You've Got Mail!

For my final project for my Experiments with Text class, I turned the contents of three emails I've recieved (from Linkedin, Canvas and Handshake respectively) into old-fashioned letters. Each was hand-written with a fountain pen on aged-looking stationary and sealed with a wax seal.

Recontextualizing the text in this way brings out the absurdity of the many marketing and notification emails we receive on a daily basis. Imagine if every LinkedIn email you got had to be handwritten by a real person!

How would online communication be different if it required that kind of individual, personal effort? It's a silly idea, and I hope it highlights the silliness of being constantly flooded with marketing emails that hardly anyone actually reads.
