I've always loved the story of the Voyager Golden Record—the idea that we as humans decided to send a message out into space to introduce ourselves and say hello, just in case anyone was listening. "The Sounds of Earth," titled after the Golden Record's official title, is a short nonfiction photocomic telling the story of the record and the Voyager program. Many of the photos included are actual photos that were encoded on the records. With the design, I hoped to match the aesthetic of the vintage photographs and take inspiration from educational comics in children's science magazines I read as a kid, such as Highlights and Ranger Rick.
