This was a self-directed piece and my first ceramics project after a five-year break. It is my first independent and conceptual piece in ceramics, and the first time I have sculpted a figure in three dimensions. I was inspired by my fascination with astronomy and the Carl Sagan quote “We are made of star stuff.” The figure is reclining, as if looking up at the stars in wonder, and covered with stars created with the sgraffito technique.
