This piece was self-directed and drawn from direct observation. I was looking for opportunities to practice drawing portraits from life, and the most obvious subject was my friend Ari. He and I share a free period in our school schedule, and I spend almost an hour sitting across from him every day while we chat and work on schoolwork. I added a few objects to the foreground to help capture a snapshot of my daily life.
